Hands-on History – Civil War
We are very excited to launch a new learning workshop for 2021 all about the English Civil War.
Legend has it that Roundhead soldiers of the English Civil War stayed at Scaplen’s Court in Sarum Street. You can still see graffiti that the men had etched into the old fireplace in one of the upstairs rooms called the Solar room.

Sadly, we have had to postpone our on-site school workshops for now. However, our learning team have created some fantastic Civil War hands-on history activities for you to enjoy each week whilst you are at home.

Young Archaeologists’ Club
Did you know Poole Museum hosts a Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC)? What is the Young Archaeologists’ Club?
The Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is the only UK-wide club where 8-16-year-olds can participate in real archaeology and discover why it matters. If you want to become a professional archaeologist in the future or just feel like taking up an amazing new hobby, YAC is the right place for you!
Since the coronavirus pandemic started our monthly YAC sessions have moved to online meetups. If you thought this would be a rather staid stopgap, you’d be mistaken! We have been able to do hands-on activities through a webcam.
To find out more, read this month’s YAC blog written by Patrick Grey, Assistant YAC Leader. For anyone interested in joining YAC please contact Louise Diffey at louise.diffey@bcpcouncil.gov.uk

Art in Focus – The Lady in Green
Our current temporary exhibition focuses on the painting ‘The Lady in Green’ by Augustus John. The woman in the painting is Euphemia Lamb. The colour green was very popular for women’s clothing in the 1910s. Euphemia’s green dress was highly fashionable and was a statement piece.

Whilst our museum is closed we have a series of exhibition activities available for you to download and enjoy at home.
