New technology allows social distancing in pubs, cafes and restaurants in Dorset
Wondering how social distancing is going to work in pubs, cafes and restaurants? A local business is already making this possible in Dorset.
There’s no doubt that COVID-19 has had a significant effect on the way people go about every aspect of their lives. Businesses around the world are now facing the possibility of things never going back to normal. Perhaps this is the beginning of a new normal – much like happened in 2001, when it only took one single event to change airport security procedures everywhere*.
As with any major movements, some businesses react faster than others to adjust their services to changes in their customers’ needs. Luckily, in Dorset, County EPOS, a business that has been successfully supporting the hospitality industry for decades, is already making available the necessary technology to promote social distancing.
Here’s what Ollie Hammond, Director of County EPOS has to say about it.
Please tell us about your business.
County EPOS originated as a family business over 40 years ago, supplying systems to retail, leisure and hospitality sectors. We have over a thousand clients across the UK, from small independents to larger chains, breweries and enterprises.
How did COVID-19 affect your business and your clients’ businesses?
As our business is predominantly supplying to hospitality, Covid-19 has had an immediate and drastic effect on our trade. With the bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants forced to shut their doors, we are hardly able to trade. The government have made funds available to support us, but until those doors are back open, this will be a worrying time.
What’s your new product? Tell us all about it?
To support the hospitality industry and help turn their operations into takeaways, we have been supplying our Touch Takeaway product, free-of-charge. The developers have also adapted this software to incorporate the ability to order from your table. As opposed to ordering delivery/collection, you can be sat at the table and have your food and drinks delivered. This product can also be adapted for every business to ensure the customer transaction journey is smooth and successful.
Why did you launch this product? How will it help your clients?
This product will help local businesses if social distancing measures are still in force when they are allowed to re-open. The ability to keep crowds away from the bar and removing cash handling is no doubt going to be essential as lockdown eases.
When can we expect it in Dorset?
This product is ready to go and we are taking orders 🙂
