Rapid lateral flow tests for families of school children
Where to get your test kits in Poole and who needs to be tested.
Schools have re-opened in England for children who have been learning from home since January 2021, as part of the third National Lockdown measures. In order to reduce the risk from asymptomatic cases at schools and further spread of the virus, the UK Government is encouraging families with children who are attending schools to be tested on a regular basis using rapid lateral flow test home kits. But who needs to be tested and how can you obtain your tests? We’ve done some research and answered these questions below.
Who needs to be tested?
According to the UK Gov website, the following people will have access to the tests:
Secondary school pupils and college students
Members of staff at primary and secondary schools and colleges
Households, childcare and support bubbles of primary and secondary-age pupils and college students
Households, childcare and support bubbles of staff of primary and secondary schools and colleges
Do primary school children need to be tested?
Not at this stage.
Is it compulsory?
The website does not mention that tests should be ‘mandatory’ or ‘compulsory’ but it highlights that we all have a part to play in restricting the further spread of the virus. So families are encouraged to take part.
How can you get your tests?
There are various ways in which you can obtain your tests. Older children will receive their tests at school and college and be trained on how to test themselves. Then they’ll be expected to complete the tests and report all results to NHS Test and Trace.
Teachers and non-teaching staff in schools – primary and secondary – and colleges will receive their kits from their employers.
Household and childcare bubble members of primary school children can collect their kits from a local rapid lateral flow test site. Here’s the address for Poole: Dolphin Swimming Pool Car Park, Poole. BH15 1TN.
Opening hours currently show Monday to Sunday 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Please check here before attending.
However, you can also get your tests from your employer or even order online. Please click here for official information.
Who can collect the tests?
Anyone over the age of 18. However, these tests are for anyone who is NOT experiencing COVID symptoms. You should NOT attend the site if you are experiencing a continuous cough, fever and loss or change to your sense of taste or smell.
Why do we need rapid lateral tests?
The results for these tests are accessed very fast, meaning anyone who tests positive can isolate straight away and avoid spreading the virus.
